TLT expands Academic Success Lecture agenda

By popular request, Teaching and Learning with Technology will expand this year's Academic Success Lecture agenda. The schedule now will include presentations hosted by TWU's Universal Design Champions and Disability Services for Students. The conference takes place Friday, March 20, on the Denton campus, with video conferencing to the Dallas and Houston campuses.

The schedule for the 14th annual Academic Success Lecture:

  • 8:45 a.m. — Continental Breakfast and Sign-in, ACT 2
  • 9-10 a.m. — Universal Design @ TWU Exhibits, ACT 2
  • 10-10:10 a.m. — Gather for keynote presentation
  • 10:10 a.m.-noon — Keynote presentation by Kevin Gumienny, ACT 301, room 8720 in Dallas, and room 7305 in Houston

About the Universal Design @ TWU Exhibits

These informal presentations will give you the opportunity to learn about topics and strategies across five different exhibits to increase student usability, engagement and access for your instructional content.

Keynote presentation overview

This session will provide an overview on how you can incorporate Universal Design in your instructional materials. These simple principles and techniques allow better ways for students to access, participate and progress in your course.

About the keynote speaker

Kevin Gumienny is the senior learning architect at Microassist and leads the award-winning Learning and Development team, which has a special focus on ensuring that online training is accessible. While at Microassist, he has led the development of accessible online courses in the areas of interpersonal conflict, physical safety, food safety, and health and human services. He is a LexisNexis contributing author on the issues of accessibility within online learning, and authored “The Training Manager’s Guide to Accessible Elearning,” an in-depth look at how to ensure online training fosters a welcoming experience for all learners — including those with disabilities — whether they are team members, clients, or members of the general public. Before arriving at Microassist, Gumienny developed courses for the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Stony Brook University. Gumienny has a passion for sharing skills and techniques. He contributes to Microassist’s Learning Dispatch monthly newsletter and writes for the Learning Dispatch blog. He has delivered presentations at several conferences, including the CSUN Assistive Technology Conference, Southwest Learning Summit, and the Texas Interagency Training Expo. He contributes subject matter expertise across various media, including HR Dive.
