Do you know the name of the Student Union on TWU’s Denton campus?
Its official name is the Mary Eleanor Brackenridge Student Union, named for a member of the university’s first Board of Regents. Brackenridge was a strong advocate for the advancement of women, and was president of the Texas Woman Suffrage Association from 1913 to 1914.
A dormitory bearing Brackenridge’s name previously stood where the current Student Union is located.
Who is this woman who inspired not one, but two, buildings at TWU? Read more about Mary Eleanor Brackenridge from the Texas State Historical Association.
