Imperative: Double the number of STEM opportunities

What we’ve accomplished:

  • Diana Elrod, PhD, is the inaugural director of the newly established Office of STEM Collaborations and Initiatives, housed under the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
  • A program in engineering is on the way, with the engineering steering committee landing on a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Engineering & Biomedical Engineering Tracks). These two degrees are the highest in demand, especially in DFW.
  • The Master of Science in Accounting is now classified as STEM within the Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

What’s coming next?

  • Creation of a website for the Office of STEM Collaborations and Initiatives.
  • The need to establish who owns the office, as this office will represent all STEM at TWU.
  • Building a STEM Innovation Lab in the Multipurpose Classroom Laboratory Building, which is rated No. 1 in capital spending. Once final approval is granted, work will begin.
  • Kinesiology and exercise science are seeking to be classified as a STEM program to increase student opportunities and access to formula funding.
