New recommendations for active commuting at TWU

The Build Well theme of TWU’s Health & Wellbeing Initiative surveyed students on all three campuses to better understand the barriers that prevent more students from commuting by bicycle. Survey respondents identified motor vehicle traffic as a top concern, followed by access to certain bicycle resources and amenities.

Build Well released its full survey findings in the 2024 TWU Bicycle Survey Executive Summary.

This executive summary includes recommendations TWU can implement to address barriers identified by students and enable more students, faculty and staff to live active lifestyles and save money by using active transportation more often.

Members of the TWU community can improve health and reduce transportation costs by using active transportation to commute to campus. More people using active transportation also reduces campus parking demand, which frees up parking spaces for people who must drive. This also reduces how much land TWU must dedicate to paved surfaces, which have negative environmental impacts.
