Jane Nelson Institute celebrates women’s history month

Scores of visitors turned out at the Sue S. Bancroft Women’s Leadership Hall on March 27 to honor trailblazing women who played an integral role in shaping Texas history as part of the national Women’s History Month celebration.

The event, hosted by the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership, featured giveaways, refreshments and exhibit tours led by the Center for Women in Government. Additionally, there were mini-history lessons on some of Texas’s most celebrated women, such as Gov. Ann Richards, Congresswoman Barbara Jordan and activist-journalist Jovita Idar.

The two-hour celebration also included cheese dip samples from woman-owned Cheesa Pleeza, a Center for Women Entrepreneurs supported business, and the launch of a new clothing closet that provides students with free professional attire — the TWU Career Boutique. The boutique, in Old Main 238, is supported by a partnership including the College of Business, Career Connection, Fashion Design and Merchandising and the Center for Student Leadership.
