(nursing), nursing students from the Women’s Health Class N3025, in collaboration with Sigma Theta Tau Beta Houston, supported the Elnita McClain annual community baby shower. In addition to holding the shower, the group assisted in counting and sorting items on Saturday, Nov. 10,, and estimated that a total of $1,500 in diaper donations were collected. The Ronald McDonald House was selected as this year’s recipient of the donations.

(nursing), more than 90 senior I nursing students from the TWU Child Health Competency class participated in the
Houston Health Foundation’s See to Succeed
program, a safety-net vision program for Houston’s underserved children. The program provides comprehensive free eye exams and eyeglasses to children who have failed the school screening but cannot afford optometry services. The nursing students performed visual assessments on more than 1,000 children from grades 1-11.

National Association for Healthcare Quality
(NAHQ) conference Nov. 6 in Minneapolis.

Annual Medical Group Management Association Case Competition held Nov. 10 at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. The case involved developing a business plan proposal for a senior healthcare facility to be located somewhere in the Gulf Coast region of Texas with a five-year proforma, description of services, reimbursement detail, site and market analysis, proposed partnerships, and anticipated issues. The location and service offerings were determined uniquely by each competing team, with the goal of producing a convincing investment opportunity.
