  • TWU nursing faculty members Leslie Nelson, Brenda Moore, Susan Mellott, Rheatte Solomon, Vi Ho and Suzanne Scheller, along with several students in the J2,S1 and S2 levels, participated in the Annual Primary Health and Cancer Prevention Health Fair at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. The TWU group gave more than 200 flu shots, presented adult educational sessions on certain high-prevalence diseases in the Asian Vietnamese community and presented pediatric health information to parents and children through interactive educational games. The event was organized by Vi Ho and the Vietnamese American Nurses Association and more than 500 people attended. 
  • Wyona Freysteinson and Susan Mellott (nursing) presented “Body image perceptions of veterans who have suffered military sexual trauma” at the Sixth International Conference on Violence in the Health Sector Oct. 25 in Toronto, Canada.
  • TWU School of Physical Therapy was well represented at the Texas Physical Therapy Association’s Annual Conference Oct. 25-27 in San Antonio. Jennifer Ellison and Toni Roddey, along with DPT students Raquel Cardelline and Lyanne Colon and Ph.D. candidate Kathryn Sawyer, presented a poster titled "The effect of verbal cueing on abdominal muscle recruitment during the abdominal drawing in maneuver." Wayne Brewer and Ph.D. student Allie Smith presented a poster covering “The attitudes and beliefs of orthopedic therapists who achieve superior patient outcomes in the management of patients with LBP in the public healthcare sector.”
  • Under the mentorship and guidance of Rupal Patel, class of 2018 DPT alumni Gabrielle Ortiz and Amy Hanks have been invited to present to an international audience at the 10th Annual Global Health Conference sponsored by the Consortium of  Universities for Global health (CUGH) to be held March 8-10 in Chicago. Their abstract, "Use of the Precede-Proceed Model of Community Health Promotion to Establish a 'Power of Exercise' Program to Increase Health Knowledge in the Hispanic Population of San Jose Clinic," was submitted during their time at TWU.
