  • Mindy Patterson (nutrition and food sciences), Wayne Brewer (physical therapy) and Christopher Ray (health sciences) collaborated to publish a chapter titled “Health and Wellness Programs for Older Adults” in the Handbook of Rehabilitation in Older Adults. Ray also is an editor of the textbook.
  • Nursing faculty members Ann Malecha and Suzanne Scheller are being recognized by the Texas Medical Volunteer Council for their work with the See to Succeed program. The pair will receive an award at the organization’s Salute to Volunteers luncheon April 30. Both Malecha and Scheller have coordinated the efforts of nursing students in volunteering to assist with vision and hearing testing for thousands of local school-aged children.
  • Under the leadership of Ann Malecha (nursing), several TWU nursing students are conducting a community assessment in the City of Stafford. As part of the assignment, the students had the opportunity to interview Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella, who was first elected in 1969 and is the longest continuous serving mayor in the U.S. at 49 years of service.
  • Carolyn DaSilva (physical therapy) along with TWU physical therapy alumna Wendy Schell and TWU DPT student Victoria Mar have published an article, “Correlation of falls in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis with objective measures of balance, strength, and spasticity,” in the NeuroRehabilitation journal.
  • In appreciation of staff’s contribution, Staff Council representatives Melissa Rodriguez (admission), Iris Du (technology) and Sandra Compton-Winbush (central services) prepared and delivered 53 treat bags to Houston staff  Friday, March 1.
  • Houston nursing faculty members Sandy Cesario, Pinky Shani and Tracie Kirkland attended the Southern Nursing Research Society event Feb. 27-March 1 in Orlando,. Several Houston Ph.D. candidates presented posters during the event, including Elif Isik, Amie Bedgood and Danna Salinas. TWU Houston Ph.D. alumna Krisanne Graves delivered a podium presentation.
