  • Congratulations to Joan Edwards (nursing) on receiving the 2019 Distinguished Professional Service Award from AWHONN (the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses), the association’s highest honor.
  • Paula Clutter (nursing) was named one of the Top 150 Nurses in Houston in the Houston Chronicle’s Salute to Nurses. An awards luncheon was held May 2 at the Omni Hotel. At the luncheon, TWU nursing student Jethrina Santos was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
  • Mona Lisa Ott (nursing) will present “The New Guidelines for Hypertension, Innovative Strategies for Nursing Practice” at the AWHONN state convention May 16-18 in Frisco.
  • The Houston Health Foundation’s See to Succeed initiative recognized its partnership with Texas Woman’s at a Salute to Volunteers awards luncheon Tuesday, April 30 at the Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute. Through the partnership, TWU’s pediatric and community nursing students work closely with See to Succeed to perform vision screenings to more than 2,000 Houston-area students. TWU’s Suzanne Scheller, Ann Malecha, Rochelle Schultz and Amanda Aguirre accepted the award.
  • Thanks to all who contributed to the Phi Kappa Phi honor society’s book fair for children and adolescents. More than 320 books were collected during the month of April and will be distributed to the United Way and the Star of Hope clinic.
