Houston Happenings, 10-16-19

  • The Oct. 8 Founders Day Forum was a big success, with 174 attendees including faculty, students and community partners. The event, a collaboration between TWU and Sigma Theta Tau-Beta Beta Houston to celebrate the art and science of nursing, included podium presentations and posters; research grants and poster awards; a silent auction that raised funds for scholarships; and more.
  • Theresa Smith (occupational therapy) co-wrote “Comparison of two computer-assisted cognitive rehabilitation program outcomes: A pilot study,” which recently was published in the Korean Journal of Occupational Therapy, 27(3), 147-158.
  • Texas Woman’s University was well represented at the Texas Physical Therapy Association Annual Conference Oct. 12-13 in The Woodlands. Carolyn Da Silva (physical therapy), Wanyi Wang (research and sponsored programs) and third-year DPT students Catherine Ragon, Jonathan Sowell and E. Brianna Wootton presented “Falls and fear of falling in adults who require wheelchairs for locomotion: preliminary analysis.” Physical therapy post-professional doctoral student Bobby Belarmino presented “Characteristics of patients who had unplanned versus planned hospital readmission while receiving post-acute inpatient rehabilitation,” co-written with PT faculty Katy Mitchell and Peggy Gleeson (Houston) and Suh-Jen Lin (Dallas). The study was a collaboration between TWU and Methodist Hospital in Houston.
  • Carolyn Da Silva (physical therapy) has been approved for renewal of her neurologic clinical specialist certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
