Get certified for mental health first aid

The TWU Health and Wellbeing Initiative is offering the national Mental Health First Aid certification (MHFA) through the Denton County MHMR Center online at no cost to TWU Faculty and Staff. The training takes place from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. March 3.

The MHFA is a workshop designed to teach educators and professionals how to assist someone experiencing mental health concerns, addiction challenges or other crises. Learn about common mental health challenges in adults and how to react and help in challenging situations.

Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD) and eating disorders.

Participants will receive a completion certificate. CEUs are available for LPCs, LMSWs, and LMFTs.

This spring, classes are virtual.

Virtual Class Format:

  • Classes are capped at 30 participants each
  • Pre-registration is required
  • Pre-work will be required to be completed before the day of the virtual training

Due to limited availability of the MHFA training this semester, make sure you are available to complete the pre-work and attend the entire class BEFORE signing up.

The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. Register now.

To complete the training, you must attend the morning and afternoon portions. The break in between sessions allows for an hour lunch break.

Spots are limited for each class, but classes are available throughout the year. If the class is already full, add yourself to the waiting list for the next workshop May 19 by filling out this form.

The class is paid for through grants provided by the TWU Division of Student Life and Denton County MHMR. For questions, contact Francilia Brito Silva, PhD, at fbritosilva@twu.edu.
