Faculty comes together for Dallas IPE event

Linda Barnett, OTD and Gretchen Johnson, OTD from the School of Occupational Therapy collaborated with Lori Aaron-Brija, DNP and Emily Berkowitz, PhD from the College of Nursing for its Dallas Clinical Skills Readiness interprofessional education (IPE) event on Oct. 28.

This IPE aligned with TWU’s IPE mission by providing second-year OTD students from Dallas and Denton entering fieldwork in the spring semester and Dallas campus senior BSN students opportunities to increase skills that promote patient-centered health outcomes.

Students engaged in hands-on activities and case study experiences focusing on role responsibilities, communication, team reasoning, and professionalism. Student engagement aligned with IPE competencies as students demonstrated competence in their profession to contribute to interprofessional collaboration and differentiate each team member’s role, scope of practice, and responsibility in promoting health outcomes.

OT and nursing students practiced team reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making through simulated case scenarios.
