  • Explore all the creative ways women get involved in politics to make a positive difference in their communities at Pioneering Politics, scheduled 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, in CFO 202. Guest speakers include Myra Crownover (retired, Texas House of Representatives), Frances Cruz (Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, City of Carrollton), Bobbie Mitchell (Denton County Commissioner) and Cheryl Williams (Collin County Commissioner).
  • Cheer on Pioneers Basketball as the team takes on Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Kitty Magee Arena. Have your photo taken with Mavs Man, and bring canned and non-perishable food items, feminine products, etc., to donate to the Denton Community Food Center. Admission to the game is free for faculty and staff with a valid TWU ID.
  • Bobby Lothringer (registrar) recently began his term as president of the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
  • Celia Lo (sociology) co-wrote three publications accepted by the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting, held Nov. 2-6 in Philadelphia: “Ethnicity and Depression: A Longitudinal Study of Hispanic Immigrants in the U.S.,” with sociology GTA Jessica L. Adame and Tyrone C. Cheng; “Health Disparities among Asian Groups: Does Immigration Status Matter?,” with Philip Q. Yang (sociology), TWU sociology alumnus William Ash-Houchen, and Tyrone C. Cheng; and “Receipt of Health Care by Maltreated Children Receiving Child-Welfare Services” with Cheng. Lo and Cheng also wrote “When Child Welfare Caseworkers Intervene, Do Women Surviving IPV Obtain Recommended Services?,” forthcoming in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.
