The TWU Community offers its condolences to the family and friends of
Katy Holland
(Disability Support Services), who passed away Monday, Oct. 7. Holland earned both a bachelor’s degree in government and a master’s in family science at TWU. A reflection ceremony will be held 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11 (Holland’s birthday) in the Little Chapel-in-the-Woods. A reception will follow in a location to be announced.

Pink Promises Breast Cancer Awareness Walk
5:30-7:30 p.m. in the gardens in front of the fitness center. It’s a half-mile walk around the north end of campus in honor of those who have been impacted by breast cancer.

Rainbow Reception
in recognition of National Coming Out Day is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, on the lawn in front of Hubbard Hall (or in the Student Union Purple Lobby if it’s raining). The day is dedicated to the celebration of coming out as LGBTQIA+ or as an Ally.

Texas Woman’s University will serve as an
early voting site
in Denton County
for the upcoming November election. Registered voters may cast their ballot in Student Union room 113 during the early voting period, which runs Oct. 21-Nov. 1.

The Department of Visual Arts will host its
MFA Open Studios
11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the
Fine Arts Annex
(formerly the Undergraduate Laboratory Building). Guests are invited to explore the new studios, meet the artists and view their projects. Refreshments will be provided.
Mark your calendars for the spooktacular
Staff Halloween Costume Contest
Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Stoddard Hall Lobby. Refreshments and registration begin at 9:30 a.m., with the contest starting at 10 a.m. Contestants must be permanent full- or part-time TWU staff members. Prizes will be awarded for first- and second-place individual costume and first-place best group/department costumes.
Congratulations to
Jennifer Rodriguez
(emergency management), who graduated from FEMA’s
National Emergency Management Advanced Academy
at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The academy, which is designed for emerging leaders and mid-level managers, required completion of four courses in Emmitsburg as well as three distance learning sessions. The curriculum provides strategic-level training and education in the essential skills and tools for emergency management professionals.

(sociology) has co-written two articles: “Explaining Chronic Illness and Self-Rated Health among Immigrants of Five Hispanic Ethnicities,” forthcoming in the
Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities
; and “Telling Medical Professionals about Victimization by Intimate Partner Analysis of Women Surviving Intimate Partner Violence,” forthcoming in the
International Journal of Health Services
