  • Need an official university headshot? Sessions are available 1-5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. All sessions take place on ACT2. No registration is required. If you had a headshot taken earlier in the semester, those photos are now available in the university’s photo archive public folder. Information on how to download photos is available if needed.
  • Texas Woman’s is celebrating the arts. The Fall 2019 Open Studios takes place 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Fine Art Annex, aka the Undergraduate Laboratory Building. Stop by and check out the new space, meet the graduate students and view their work. The artistry continues with TWU’s first Art Day, a free event for high school students, transfer students and art educators, on Friday, Oct. 25.
  • The TWU Department of History and Political Science will present a nonpartisan panel on impeachment to help students understand the impeachment process and aide them in placing current events in a broader historical context. The TWU community is invited to submit questions about impeachment, both current and historical, to cbrock1@twu.edu. The most common and pressing questions will be answered by a panel of political science professors during the discussion. The event is free and open to the public, and will take place 1-2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Blagg Huey Library living room.
  • The Denton County MHMR Center is offering training on Youth Mental Health First Aid to employees of Denton County universities and independent school districts. Student employees are included. The free training will take place 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Denton County MHMR COPC Office, 2509 Scripture. The course teaches a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Continuing education credits will be available for licensed professional counselors (LPC), master social workers (LMSW) and marriage and family therapists (LMFT). An RSVP is required.
  • TWU is an early voting site in Denton County for the upcoming November election, and volunteers are still needed to help voters park and direct them to the polling site, located in Student Union room 113.   • Shannon Mantaro (Center for Women Entrepreneurs) wrote a column, “Take steps to sustain your small business,” that was published in the Oct. 16 issue of the Denton Record-Chronicle.
  • Suzanne Burns (occupational therapy), recipient of the American Stroke Association/American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine’s 2019 Young Investigator Award in Post-Acute Stroke Rehabilitation, will present sessions on “Hot Topics in Stroke” at the ACRM annual conference, the world’s largest rehabilitation research event, Nov. 5-8 in Chicago.
