  • Don’t miss Pachanga, scheduled 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Student Union Underground. Enjoy Latin-style dishes, music, crafts and festivities. The price for dinner is $9.15 per person.
  • Join a new folk dancing group comprised of faculty, staff and students. No prior experience required! The group meets 4-5:30 p.m. Saturdays at the TWU Fitness and Recreation Center, Studio 2, and is free for students and $1-2 for faculty and staff, depending on the number of participants. The folk dancing activity includes dances from all over the world and is led by Laura Hanson (biology), a folk dancer and folk dance teacher for more than 40 years.   • The Department of Visual Arts invites you to artist lectures, beginning 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, in the West Gallery of the Visual Arts Building, featuring Natalie Macellaio. The second lecture, featuring Giovanni Valderas, will be 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, in the East Gallery. Bernardo Vallarino will present the final artist lecture 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Visual Arts Building hallway.
  • Enjoy a “Taste of Texas,” 8:30-10:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at the amphitheater. Put on your southern attire and settle into your Texas roots by enjoying a night of dancing under the stars with music by Mike Randall and the High Road. Satisfy your sweet tooth with southern desserts, complete with horchata and a sweet tea bar. Admission is free for faculty, staff, students and Family Weekend participants.
  • Annual Ally Training, sponsored by TWU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will take place 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 in Student Union 207. Space is limited, and the deadline to register is Sept. 27. The TWU Ally Program is an elective and interactive workshop held each semester to provide support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual/agender students, faculty and staff.   • Mandy Stewart (reading) co-wrote a column, “Immigrant children need to learn English, and they need to retain their native languages,” published Sept. 10 in the Dallas Morning News opinion/commentary section.
  • Philip Yang (sociology) was guest editor for “Transnationalism and Genealogy,” a special issue of the journal Genealogy, which recently was published by MDPI Publishers. Yang also published “Transnationalism and Genealogy: An Introduction” in this special issue of Genealogy, volume 3, issue 3, pp. 1-8.
  • Ron Davis (kinesiology) reports that a host of ROTC cadets, faculty, staff, students (including officers from the Adapted Sport Club and the Kinesiology Club) and others attended the Run Bike Roll event Saturday, Sept. 14, on the Denton campus. Davis says it was the final event for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs grant, and veterans have been involved all the way through. The project also received support from ROTC.
