  • Reminder: Faculty/staff head shots are scheduled from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 12, and 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. All photo sessions will take place in the second-floor lobby of the ACT building. No appointment is necessary. If you’re in need of an official university head shot, here’s your opportunity!
  • Check out the Little Chapel-in-the-Woods feature in the Sept. 9 Landmarks & Legacies column in the Denton Record-Chronicle. The column is part of a monthly series exploring the history behind some of Denton’s landmark buildings.
  • The Graduate School will host a garden party in honor of Sandy McBurnett, who is retiring after 28 years of service. The campus community is invited to attend the event, scheduled 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in ACT 225, with a brief program beginning at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
  • Welcome Joseph Alderman, new advisor for The Lasso. Alderman is a graduate of the journalism program at Texas A&M University-Commerce and a former reporter for Herald-Banner Publications. Alderman does have a tie to TWU: His wife, Meagan, is an alumna of TWU’s library and information science program.
  • Faculty members in Reading have hit some high marks in the area of literacy. Betsy Kaye’s article, “As Easy as ABC? Teaching and Learning about Letters in Early Literacy,” has been accepted to The Reading Teacher, the premier international journal for literacy practitioners. Also, Kaye and fellow Reading faculty members Connie Briggs, Amy Burke and Mandy Stewart, will take over the editorship of the Texas Association of Literacy Educators state journal on Oct. 1.
  • Congratulations to Karen Dunlap (teacher education), who was selected as a recipient of the JCEL Reviewer of the Year Award from the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership.
  • Jonathan Olsen (history and government) presented a paper, “Flesh of the Same Flesh: A Study of Voters of the Alternative for Germany (AFD) in the 2017 German Federal Election” at the annual American Political Science Association meeting Aug. 30-Sept. 2 in Boston.
