Lewis Benavides, senior associate vice president of human resources & chief human resources officer, Tony Yardley, director of employee relations, and Jason Tomlinson, vice president for finance and administration, responded to approximately 50 questions about alternative work arrangements during the Oct. 14 Staff Council meeting.
Staff Council sent out a call for questions after hearing concerns regarding the university’s telecommuting policies.
Yardley answered most of the questions, which ranged from how work arrangement decisions are made to why someone is not allowed to work from home if their job doesn’t require them to be on campus.
“Telecommuting needs to be the exception, not the norm,” Yardley said. He also encouraged open dialogue between employees and their supervisors in dealing with telecommuting requests.
