TWU to host virtual commencement amid COVID-19 shutdown

"Pomp and circumstance" takes on a new look this spring as universities throughout the country postpone traditional commencement ceremonies due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Texas Woman’s will conduct virtual commencement ceremonies for Spring and Summer 2020 graduates so they may remotely celebrate their achievement with family and friends. The ceremonies — a total of five — will be available on demand beginning Friday, May 22, at a link to be posted on the registrar’s commencement site.

Students who applied to graduate in May or applied to participate in the May ceremony received an email with details about the virtual ceremonies and an invitation to RSVP. The ceremonies will consist of slides featuring the graduate’s name, degree, major, honors, and Honors Scholar information. Students will have the option to customize their slides with personal messages and photos.

There is no additional cost to participate in the virtual ceremony.

TWU hopes to conduct a traditional ceremony in August. Graduates may participate in both the virtual May ceremony and the traditional ceremony.
