TWU to hold drive-thru commencement events

University officials heard many requests for an in-person commencement ceremony and searched for a way to accommodate those requests. After all, capping off a college career in the midst of a pandemic is a momentous achievement meant to be celebrated.

In a letter to students who applied for graduation this year, Provost Carolyn Kapinus announced that university officials had listened to students’ feedback and decided to have combined events for TWU’s May, August and December 2020 graduates.

Denton and Dallas ceremonies will take place at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. The Houston ceremony location is being finalized. All events will be held in December after classes end.

At these events, 2020 graduates and their guests will exit their vehicles in their regalia, receive their diploma covers and have formal pictures taken. This option allows graduates to be safely recognized with loved ones while maintaining the health and safety practices that are so important at this time. The events also will be livestreamed for family members who may not be able to join the graduates in person.

Details about schedules, dates and more will be posted to the Commencement 2020 website when the information becomes available.
