It’s been said that “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” In celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment this summer, PBS will air Trailblazers, a series featuring the stories of several history-making women. Texas Woman’s University is one of many sponsors of the series, which highlights women’s leadership and the pioneering spirit — values important to TWU.
Airing in June and July, the Trailblazers series includes profiles of women in history and politics, artists and activists, including Ann Richards, governor of Texas from 1990-1994; Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison; and Gloria Steinem, a leader of the American feminist movement in the 1960s and ’70s. An “American Experience” episode, “The Vote,” tells the story of the unsung heroes of the campaign to pass the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women’s constitutional right to vote.
Texas Woman’s is sponsoring the series in Dallas, Austin and Houston. In Dallas (KERA-TV), the shows will run with a 30-second video of TWU. In Austin (KLRU-TV) and Houston (KUHT-TV), 15-second videos of TWU will air. It is only one of the ways the university has been celebrating the centennial of the 19th Amendment.
More information on the Trailblazers series is available on the PBS website.
