Parking garage opening Nov. 5

You’ve watched the building on Oakland Street go up, either in person or via camera. Now, one of TWU’s most anticipated construction projects is nearing completion.

The new parking and office facility will open Monday, Nov. 5. The structure includes a four-story parking garage with rooftop parking and an adjacent two-story office building that, when fully operational, will house the Office of Human Resources, the Department of Public Safety, admissions testing facilities and a café.

The parking garage can accommodate almost 600 vehicles. General and reserve decals will be issued to those who choose to park in the new facility. These decals may be purchased in the new DPS office in the Oakland building beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. If you already have a valid parking permit, you’ll receive a new, prorated garage parking permit and be credited for your current permit.

Costs for the new garage parking permits are:

  • General Parking -- $350/year (prorated to $290 for 2018-19)
  • Reserved Parking -- $525/year (prorated to $425 for 2018-19.

The new parking decals are valid only for parking in the garage and all-decal (black curb) parking. Visit the Oakland parking garage website for more information on garage parking.

Once the Oakland garage opens, TWU will have approximately 4,000 parking spaces on the Denton campus, plus nearly 200 spots in the Remote North All-Decal Lot and more than 600 in the Denton Bible Church remote lot, which does not require a parking decal. Free shuttles run to and from these two remote lots Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Visit the remote parking and shuttle website for more information. Additionally, a new 170-space, all-decal gravel parking lot will be installed near the tennis court lot and the TWU Soccer Park when weather permits.

Parking Plan

Watry Design, Inc., a nationally recognized parking planning firm, currently is reviewing TWU’s parking allocations, parking fees, future maintenance and operational needs. The company will present a parking study, which will be reviewed by a campus-wide committee comprised of faculty, staff and students. This committee will make formal recommendations to the chancellor for a new parking plan to be implemented during the next academic year.
