New affinity group formed for Latinx faculty, staff

Unidxs – Latinx Faculty and Staff Affinity Group has been recognized as a new affinity group at Texas Woman’s University.

The group works to create a community for growth and professional development, success sharing, networking and mentorship within the TWU Latinx community of professionals and create an authentic space for Latinx faculty and staff.

The group also is committed to promoting initiatives for the academic success, safety and retention of Latinx students at the university.

Juan E. Armijo and Christine Torres (both Pioneer Center for Student Excellence) are the group president and vice president, respectively.

A virtual informational “meet & greet” will take place from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12. Fall meetings will be held online at noon on the second Wednesday of each month.

To be added to the group’s listserv and/or stay updated with engagement and professional development opportunities, submit your contact information.

Unidxs – Latinx Faculty and Staff Affinity Group is TWU’s sixth approved affinity group, joining Wellness Works, TWU Fellowship, Maintaining Motherhood in Academia (MMA), The TWU Black Faculty & Staff Association, and TWQ. There are rules and regulations to forming an affinity group, and a human resources committee reviews and approves applications to ensure the group meets the criteria.
