Vice Provost of Research, Innovation and Corporate Engagement Holly Hansen-Thomas, PhD, has received the Fulbright International Education Administrators Award, her third Fulbright Fellowship.

"I am so very excited to be awarded this IEA. I have had for several years a goal to be a three-time Fulbrighter," Hansen-Thomas said. "I can’t wait to learn about the higher educational landscape in France and bring back ways Texas Woman’s can collaborate, learn from, and engage with international partners."

Hansen-Thomas' previous two Fulbrights were when she was a Fulbright Teaching Assistant in 2000-2001 in Budapest, Hungary, and in 2016 during her professional development leave from TWU in Tarragona, Spain as a Senior Specialist.

Hansen-Thomas will spend two weeks in France participating in a group seminar designed to familiarize U.S. higher education administrators with France's higher education and research system. The program consists of briefings, campus visits, appointments with selected government officials, networking and cultural activities, and meetings with French international education professionals.

FULBRIGHT SPECIALISTS
Mandy Stewart, PhD, a professor in Literacy and Learning, and Joan E. Edwards, PhD, CNS, RN, Professor Emerita, Nursing and Director Emeritus, Center for Global Nursing have been selected for the Fulbright Specialist Program Roster.

Edwards will serve as a Fulbright Specialist at the University of Indonesia in October and November of this year. The Fulbright Specialist Program, coordinated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education’s Council for International Exchange of Scholars, provides grant opportunities to Fulbright Specialists. Specialists are consultants with expertise in their academic discipline, who collaborate on projects in diverse settings of higher education in a wide range of eligible disciplines and fields.

The program promotes relationships between U.S. scholars and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. The Specialist Program awards grants for short-term collaborative projects at institutions in over 140 countries. Specialists may be requested to provide academic services, such as short-term lecturing, conducting seminars, teacher training, assessments and evaluations, special conferences or workshops, as well as collaborating on faculty development and curriculum or institutional planning.

FULBRIGHT NATIONAL SCREENING COMMITTEE
The Institute of International Education annually convenes National Screening Committees to review Fulbright U.S. Student applications and recommend candidates as semi-finalists to the award sponsors. Three TWU faculty members served on the Fulbright National Screening Committee in the fall of 2023: Chang, Pei-Fen, PhD, OTR, Professor and Assistant Director, Occupational Therapy, Houston Center; Ludovic A. Sourdot, PhD, Professor, Teacher Education; Richard Shuster, DMA, Professor, Piano, Division of Music

FULBRIGHT TRAVEL GRANT
Brenda Moore, PhD, RN-BC, CNE, an associate professor in the TWU College of Nursing, Houston, and director of the Center for Global Nursing at TWU, will travel to Cairo, Egypt as a Fulbright Specialist when the Fulbright Program resumes. The U.S. Department of State has temporarily suspended the program and postponed all Fulbright Specialist projects due to concerns about the coronavirus.
