Events to support national Write to Vote initiative

Quakertown Stories and The Women’s Thought Leadership Program invite faculty, and staff, and students from all three Texas Woman’s campuses to join in two events in support of the national Write to Vote initiative. The project seeks to engage college and university students across the United States with the history and necessity of voting.

A panel discussion on voting rights will take place 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, in room 257 in Old Main and also via Zoom. The event will provide an opportunity to learn about the history of voting rights in Texas and the United States and discuss the ways in which recent and proposed changes in voting laws and districting affect access to the polls.

An op-ed writing workshop is scheduled 4-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in room 257 in Old Main. This event also will be offered via Zoom. Organizers will walk attendees through the process of writing a short opinion piece related to voting rights. The session will conclude with a brief discussion of tips and tricks on pitching op-eds. Bring a notepad and pen, laptop, or other device for writing.
