DPS receives accreditation recognition

The Texas Woman’s University Department of Public Safety earlier this year was accredited by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, the leading authority for campus public safety. Only 1.5% of university police departments achieve accreditation by the organization.

Autumn Stinchcomb, TWU's Clery compliance officer and accreditation manager, traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to accept recognition from the IACLEA at its annual conference June 25-28.

“It was an honor to receive the accreditation award on behalf of TWU DPS,” she said. “Accreditation took years of work to achieve, but the process has made us a better, more modernized department.”

Conference speakers included several FBI special agents who talked about their responses to certain public safety situations, including the Austin mail bombings.

“I also enjoyed a ‘fireside’ chat session with retired LAPD Chief and former New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton,” Stinchcomb said. “There also were breakout sessions on the Clery Act, which were informative.”
