The official unveiling of the newly renovated Dianne Baker Field, will take place noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21.
Formerly known as Pioneer Field, home to the TWU softball team, the name was changed in February 2019 by a vote of the TWU Board of Regents to honor Distinguished Alumna and former coach Baker.
Baker actually designed the field, which was completed in 1995. That was the year she returned to her alma mater as head softball coach following the program’s reinstatement. She is a member of the TWU Athletics Hall of Fame, and earlier this year was announced as the 2019 inductee into the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor.
In February, TWU announced Baker’s gift of $500,000 to support the upkeep and renovations of the softball field. It was the largest gift ever to the softball program and the single-largest gift to TWU Athletics by a living alumna.
