The clinic is offering 45-minute sessions twice a week, June 15-July 23. TWU faculty, staff, alumni and their eligible family members may register at the discounted rate of $112 for 12 total sessions. Payment in full is due by June 15.
Clients must have the following in order to participate in the sessions:
- Computer or hand-held device
- Stable internet connection
- Recent assessment report or progress update

Therapy services offered this summer are the same type of services offered in the spring when sessions were moved online due to the COVID-19 crisis. Therapy is provided by graduate speech-language pathology students under the supervision of licensed and certified speech pathologists.
“All of our supervisors are now experienced with teletherapy and telesupervision, so we are able to provide a high-quality service for our clients,” said Erika Armstrong, chair of TWU’s Department of Communication Sciences and Oral Health. “The vast majority of the clients who continued with teletherapy (in the spring) were extremely pleased with the services, and many of them are returning for teletherapy this summer.”
Armstrong believes these types of sessions will continue.
“We truly believe teletherapy is here to stay,” she said, “and we are proud pioneers of this training for our graduate students. We intend to continue at least some teletherapy once our clinic reopens, since we frequently have clients who travel long distances for their sessions, as well as potential clients who need therapy but are physically unable to travel.
“Being able to offer teletherapy to individuals who, for a number of reasons, may not be able to travel to the Denton clinic will serve not only our community, but also the students in our training program.”
