All invited to virtual screening of 'Just Mercy'

TWU's Student Union Programming with the office of Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach hosted a virtual screening of the movie "Just Mercy" Tuesday night, but the conversation continues.

"Just Mercy" is a recent film adaptation of Bryan Stevenson’s memoir "Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption." The memoir details Stevenson’s experiences as a young black attorney in rural Alabama, where many of his clients faced death row. Stevenson's story exposes the injustices of the American criminal justice system and the systemic issues of race that have resulted in the mass incarceration of many black and brown people.

While the event was developed with students in mind, faculty and staff are invited to participate as well. As a university community, we renounce injustice and call for meaningful dialogue and support for our black and brown communities.

For more details about this event, visit the DIO and SUP social media channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) and learn how you can participate in the conversation.

Additional events addressing social injustice and systemic racism are also planned in the coming weeks, including a Netflix event on Juneteenth where we will watch "Becoming," so keep an eye out for more updates.

Chancellor Feyten also has provided her perspective on Texas Woman’s renouncement of injustice and the support of our black and brown communities.
