Accreditation committee members visiting TWU

Higher education professionals from institutions throughout the South are visiting Texas Woman’s University campuses this week on behalf of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the university’s regional accreditor.

Committee members visited TWU’s Dallas and Houston campuses April 10 and are on the Denton campus April 11-12. They will leave following an exit briefing Thursday morning, April 13.

In the U.S., higher education institutions and programs are reviewed by accreditors, which are private, nongovernmental organizations created for the specific purpose of ensuring quality standards.

Committee members may request interviews with anyone in the Texas Woman’s community, drop in on classes to observe teaching, or visit offices to ask about specific records. The university’s new Quality Enhancement Plan, “Amplify Your Impact,” is expected to be a major focus of the committee’s visit.

The final determination about the university’s accreditation status will be announced at the SACSCOC annual meeting in December.
