Kinney advances in composer competition

Dayton Kinney, Ph.D. (Center for Faculty Excellence) has advanced to compete in the second round of the 2023 International Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition in the Senior Category.

This annual international competition selected 24 applicants from all over the world: 12 for the Junior Category and 12 for the Senior Category.

The second round of the competition will take place in-person July 23 – Aug. 1 in Prague, Czech Republic, where participants will be tasked to compose two new works within five days. The first composition will be a free-form composition, while the second work must be either a variation, passacaglia, fugue, or canon. Both works will have specific parameters and a motif to be assigned upon arrival.

All second round participants are competing for the grand prize (the Antonín Dvořák Award) along with placing first, second, or third in their prospective age categories.
