The Employee Retirement System of Texas (ERS) selected BlueCross BlueShield of Texas as the new benefits administrator this past fiscal year and implemented services Sept. 1, 2017. Since then, concerns have been raised regarding the insurance company’s HealthSelect network. Employees on all three campuses have discovered that some of their medical providers have opted not to continue in the POS (Point-of-Service) under BlueCross BlueShield of Texas.

BCBS and UT Southwestern reached a temporary agreement to honor network rates while a more permanent contract was negotiated. Anyone who has been charged out-of-network rates for service at UT Southwestern and/or its providers may contact TWU Benefits directly. The office can submit the claims information to our BCBS representative for review.

The TWU Benefits team is communicating daily with ERS and BCBS, expressing the concerns of faculty and staff; however, the decision on whether to participate ultimately lies with the facilities and providers. If you would like to voice your concerns to ERS by phone, you may do so at 877-275-4377.
