Stoddard Hall

What's in a name?

Do you ever wonder about the people for whom buildings on TWU campuses are named? Sure, some are obvious: Who hasn't heard of T. Boone Pickens?

Several buildings on the Denton campus are named for former university presidents, but others are named for those who had a part in TWU's founding. Stoddard Hall, which houses the College of Professional Education, is such a building.

Stoddard Hall is named for Helen M. Gerrells Stoddard, a prohibition advocate, president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and an original member of the College of Industrial Arts (now TWU) board of regents. Read more about Stoddard from the Texas State Historical Association.
