The TWU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry launched a new summer camp for high school students this summer, with 24 inaugural students completing the camp.
Led by faculty members Shiru Lin, PhD, Gustavo Salazar, PhD, and Alana Taylor, the camp focused on "green chemistry" including solar energy production, microplastics in the environment, and using computer modeling to predict outcomes of chemical models.
Students received hands-on training in the chemistry methods in the laboratory. The camp was funded by a grant from the Governor's Summer Merit Program through the Texas Workforce Commission, which aims to reduce economic barriers to high quality STEM education experiences.
