William Sit, PhD, clinical professor at the TWU Dallas Center, traveled on a week-long service trip with 20 therapists and students from the schools of OT, PT, & ST through Hearts in Motion.
"The team worked with over 200 patients throughout the week at various pop-up clinics and municipal centers throughout rural Guatemala," Sit said. "The faculty and students presented a day-long continuing education course on sensory integration to Guatemalan therapists, special education teachers, chiropractors, and parents."
Students had opportunities to evaluate and create interventions for a range of patients from babies to older adults, receiving hands-on training for patients needing orthopedic care for knee and back pain to neurological cases like spinal cord injuries and cerebral palsy.
