  • Facilities Management will host a retirement reception for Jerry Don “JD” Sprayberry 2-3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, in the second-floor lobby of ACT. Sprayberry is retiring after 35 years of service to TWU.
  • Reminder: The TWU community is invited to the opening of Parliament Village, including Mary’s Hall, 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23.
  • Dining hours have changed due to residence hall move-in, so check TWU Dining to see when you can get your grub on this week. Regular hours of operation begin Monday, Aug. 26.
  • ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) parking permits will be available in the DSS office (CFO 106) Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Wednesday, Aug. 28, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will need a copy of your VTR-214 from the DMV for verification. Visit the Parking website for more information.
  • Agatha Beins (multicultural women’s and gender studies) will be the Nov. 20 guest speaker for a new lecture series begun by the Resource Center and The Dallas Way as part of their efforts to preserve LGBT history in North Texas.
  • Congratulations to Gabriel Cruz (fitness & recreation) and Jessica Burchfield (CARE), who are among the newest members of Leadership Denton.
  • Sociology faculty, students and alumni made a strong presence at the American Sociological Association annual meeting Aug. 10-13 in New York City. In all, nine papers authored by current TWU faculty and students were presented at the meeting. Authors were Paul Bones, Celia Lo, Philip Yang, Morsheda Akhter, Amy Clark, JP DeMeritt, Heather Gerling, GJ Hodson, Petina Powers, Jonbita Prost and Morgan Villavaso. The association’s Animals and Society Section presented this year’s Distinguished Scholarship Award to TWU alumna Andrea Laurent-Simpson. Other alumni attending including Maggie Bohm-Jordan, Nina Michalikova and Mehmet Soyer.
