Scholarship endowment established for business students

The Bertha Floyd Scholarship Endowment was established through a generous estate gift from the late Charlsie Floyd ’65, named in memory of her mother Bertha Floyd. This endowment will support Texas Woman’s students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Floyd graduated from TWU with a degree in political science and economics, and she went on to have a distinguished career working in disaster relief and humanitarian efforts. With the American Red Cross, she traveled extensively both internationally and domestically, serving in Vietnam, China and Russia and assisting Red Cross president Elizabeth Dole. As director of disaster services, Floyd coordinated vital disaster recovery efforts in the U.S., including during Hurricane Andrew, flooding in Appalachia, and the 1993 floods. Additionally, she nurtured future leaders in Red Cross youth services programs. The United Way benefitted from her leadership as a loaned executive.

She served Lindenwood University in several roles with the Advancement and Community Engagement team. She was a passionate community advocate in her residence of St. Charles, Mo., serving as an active member of the city’s chamber of commerce, tourism Board, and the local chapter of P.E.O. International. Both she and her mother Bertha cherished travel, especially in the New England region.
