Master Plan & Space

The goals of the Master Plan & Space Utilization initiative are to create a master plan for space usage — both natural and constructed — and create a Space Utilization Advisory Committee (SUAC) to identify space needs and effectively manage space.

Current Status/Outputs

  • The master plan was completed and presented to the Board of Regents.
  • SUAC was created and is in its second year of operation.  Attention was paid to diversity of location, disciplines, and roles in committee membership. SUAC makes recommendations to the chancellor, who makes final decisions.
  • SUAC participated in professional development on THECB requirements, deferred maintenance, and the master plan to prepare members for complex decision-making related to the most effective use of TWU’s limited space.
  • A SUAC workflow to guide committee recommendations and their implementation was created.
  • A SUAC website was established to keep the campus abreast of the committee’s work and serve as a resource for those with space needs.
  • A form for submitting space requests was created and is available on the website.

Next Steps

  • Currently, the committee is considering approximately 20 space requests including new space requests, reallocations, and changes in space use.
  • SUAC’s work is expanding to include consideration of capital projects.
  • All Master Plan and SUAC initiatives will focus on TWU’s space as the backdrop in which strategic plan imperatives—learn, discover, serve, lead, and invest--take place.
  • A website to share the master plan is in development.
