Unidxs announces officers for new academic year

Unidxs – Latinx Faculty and Staff Affinity Group has announced its officers for the 2021-2022 term:

  • President – Christine Torres (Pioneer Center for Student Excellence, Houston)
  • Vice president – Wandaliz Turner (admissions, Denton)
  • Secretary – Lorena Cavazos (teacher education, Denton)
  • Professional development chair – William Benner (English, speech & foreign languages, Denton)
  • Social & community development chair – Elisa De La Rosa (dance, Denton)
  • Student engagement chair – Maria Gomez Albrecht (College of Business, Denton)
  • Volunteer & outreach chair – Aimee Myers (teacher education, Denton)

Unidxs is a network of TWU Latinx faculty and staff that strives to provide an authentic space to express and share intellectual and professional growth. The group also is committed to promoting initiatives for the academic success, inclusiveness, and retention of Latinx students at the university.

A virtual informational “Meet & Greet” will take place from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16. Fall meetings will be held online at noon on the third Thursday at each month. Submit your contact information to be added to the group’s listserv and/or stay up to date with engagement and professional development opportunities.

Unidxs – Latinx Faculty and Staff Affinity Group is TWU’s sixth approved affinity group, joining Wellness Works, TWU Christian Fellowship in Academia, Maintaining Motherhood in Academia (MMA), The TWU Black Faculty & Staff Association, and TWQ. There are rules and regulations to forming an affinity group, and a human resources committee reviews and approves applications to ensure the group meets the criteria.
