Texas Woman’s University will mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a free concert and the traditional placing of flags on the Denton campus.
TWU’s Division of Music will present “Home of the Brave,” a 9/11 memorial concert featuring performances by the Texas Woman’s band, choir, and orchestra. The event will take place 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, in Margo Jones Performance Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. Masks and social distancing are encouraged, and street parking is available to all guests.
TWU’s Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Wind Symphony and Chamber Orchestra will perform timeless classics, including “The Star-Spangled Banner” by John Stafford Smith and Francis Scott Key and “America the Beautiful” by Samuel Augustus Ward, as well as contemporary pieces, including “A Hymn for the Lost and the Living” by Eric Ewazen and “Goodnight, Dear Heart” by Dan Forrest.
TWU’s Student Veterans Association members traditionally place flags near Brackenridge Hall each year to mark the anniversary, but this year’s observance holds special significance, even for SVA members who were very young when the attacks occurred.
