TWU recognized for exceptional grounds maintenance

Texas Woman’s University has been recognized with a 2020 Green Star Merit Award by the Professional Grounds Management Society. The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence.

TWU receive the award in the University and College Grounds (Mid-Size, 200-499 Acres) category for exceptional grounds maintenance. Winners were honored during the society’s 2020 virtual awards celebration on Oct. 22. Overall, PGMS presented three Grand Awards (its highest honor), 14 Honor Awards and three Merit Awards in eight categories of competition.

The university received Honor Awards from PGMS in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2017. Robert Trevino, manager of landscape operations in TWU’s Department of Facilities Management & Construction, said though the Merit Award is “a notch below” the Honor Award, he’s extremely proud of the staff.

“A couple of years ago, we lost some employees to retirement and basically started with a new staff,” Trevino said. “That is why this award is very gratifying — such a young staff already getting recognized nationally. I’m extremely proud and look forward to seeing what the current team will do in the future.”

Serving the profession for more than 100 years, PGMS is an individual membership society of grounds professionals dedicated to advancing the grounds management profession through education and professional development. Visit www.PGMS.org for more information.
