Pet therapy program recruiting volunteers

The TWU Pioneer Pet Therapy Program is recruiting for the next class of volunteer handler teams.

The program launched this fall with nine volunteers. The small group had a big impact, though, with more than 350 students attending the five events offered during the semester. The students overwhelmingly indicated that participating in the program reduced their stress and helped to stabilize their mood.

Any permanent full- or part-time TWU employee who has a dog that is at least 1 year old and has lived with them for a minimum of six months is eligible for the program. If you’re interested in volunteering, sign up for one of two informal sessions that will provide more information about the program:

Topics to be covered in each session include:

  • The purpose and vision of the program
  • Program requirements
  • Associated costs
  • Timeline for program certification and training
