Commuter Welcome Week

Volunteers are needed to staff the “Ask Me station” to answer questions of commuting students and to welcome commuters, provide parking and classroom directions and inform commuters of the new parking rules.

Due to social distancing and parking lot changes, volunteers will work in only one location — outside, near Jones Hall. Paired with one CARE (Campus Alliance for Resource Education) staff member, volunteers will work one-hour shifts — 8:30-9:30 a.m., or 10:15-11:15 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24-Thursday, Aug. 27.

CARE staff will support volunteers and provide updates at the beginning of each shift. Volunteers are asked to provide their cell phone number so they may be contacted in the event of any last-minute changes.

Block Party Update

The annual Block Party tradition will continue this year, though things will be a little different due to COVID-19.

This year’s Block Party will be hosted in four separate locations, and students will be assigned to the party based on their residence hall or commuter status. To mitigate crowding, students will spend 45 minutes enjoying live music and a picnic meal provided by Pioneer Kitchen.

Staff and faculty will not be asked to volunteer for the event this year as organizers try to ensure safety by limiting chances of contact as much as possible.
