Mural project begins new phase

It’s been nearly a year since students in visual arts professor Giovanni Valderas’ class completed an eye-popping mural in the breezeway of the Administration Conference Tower (ACT).

This fall, students in the class are preparing for a second act: a vibrant, dynamic complementary painting that will extend the boundaries of the original mural.

“This combines inspiration from the original 2024 mural with our own interpretation of Texas Woman’s University pride and identity through a bold and exploding color palette,” Valderas said.

Preparation for the extended mural is already underway, with painting expected to begin this month, he said. The latest work will incorporate personal symbols such as magnolias and other universal imagery to tie the latest project with the previous one. It is expected to be completed this year.

“Ultimately, this artwork is a celebration of connection: to history, to community and to the people make TWU meaningful,” Valderas said.
