Literacy and Learning hosted the 2023 Billie J. Askew Reading Recovery & K-6 Literacy Institute on Nov. 6-7 in Hurst, Texas. The event featured keynote speakers Derrick Barnes, an award-winning author, and Colby Sharp, the Nerdy Book Club co-founder and a fifth-grade teacher. 

Other speakers included:

• Adria Klein, PhD, director and trainer at the Reading Recovery Center at Saint Mary’s College of California
• K. Journey Swafford, PhD, the Pathways to Literacy Initiatives Associate Project Director and Reading Recovery Executive Director
• Connie Briggs, PhD, a Reading Recovery Trainer and Professor Emeritus from Texas Woman's University

In addition, several Literacy and Learning doctoral students and Pulse Scholars presented as well as Literacy and Learning faculty.
