  • Wyona Freysteinson (nursing) has been selected by the Texas Nurses Association District 9 as one of the top 20 Outstanding Nurses for 2018. In addition to Freysteinson,  TWU Ph.D. alumni Stacy Drake and Riza Mauricio are among the top 20.
  • Jennifer Ellison, Peggy Gleeson and Jennifer Bogardus (all physical therapy) presented a short course, “Building resilience, emotional intelligence and grit in DPT and PTA students for academic and clinical success,” at the American Physical Therapy Association Education Leadership Conference Oct. 12-14 in Jacksonville, Florida. 
  • Ann St. Germain (nursing) led several students in participating and representing TWU at the Texas Nursing Students’ Association annual Council of Schools Oct. 12-14 in Austin.
  • Under the direction of Madhura Maiya (research), the Houston Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Office of Research successfully hosted the first IRB workshop Tuesday, Oct. 9. More than 25 faculty members, students and staff attended to the event to learn more about conducting research involving human subjects. If you missed the workshop and would like information on the topic covered, contact Madhura Maiya.
  • Anita Hufft (nursing) will be on the debate panel as the Texas Medical Center Health Policy Institute presents “The Great Health Care Debate” from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Third Coast Restaurant. The event will feature Hufft and other leading experts from across TMC who will discuss universal health care, the role of government assistance programs, and ways to reduce health care costs — among other hot-button issues. The event is open to the public, but you must be registered to attend.
