  • Nursing faculty members Wyona Freysteinson and Susan Mellot, along with TWU nursing student Tania Celia, Jinlan Du (technology), Marilyn Goff (libraries) and Zoheb Allam (research/Dallas), and Tana Plescher with Grace After Fire, have published their study on “Body Image Perceptions of Women Veterans with Military Sexual Trauma” in the Issues of Mental Health Nursing journal.
  • Francie Baxter (occupational therapy) has been awarded membership into the OT Leaders and Legacies Society, an organization dedicated to growing the profession of occupational therapy through practice, service and research.
  • Nutrition and Food Science faculty members Mindy Patterson and Carolyn Moore presented “Food Addiction, Diet, and Biomarkers in Female Bariatric Patients” at the 2018 Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual conference and exhibition held iFriday, April 13 in Houston.
  • Olinda Johnson (nursing) received the 2018 Trailblazer Award from Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church for her support of the education program that provides scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors.
  • Theresa Smith (occupational therapy) will present her study, “Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Perspectives on Post-stroke Visual Concerns and Consequences: A Qualitative Study,” at the 2018 AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association) Annual Conference and Expo April 19-22 in Salt Lake City.
  • More than 120 faculty, staff and students (plus a visitor or two) signed releases and received dog therapy Monday, April 16, from Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs of Houston. The event was co-sponsored by the Houston Academic Resource Center (ARC) and the Office of Student Life. Not only was the event therapeutic for students, it also was an opportunity to learn more about the benefits of pet therapy for patients.
  • TWU Ombudperson Linda Rubin will be on campus April 19-20 in the Harper Room (10th floor) and is available for drop in visits and by appointment.
  • The Houston family graduation ceremony is set for Wednesday, May 9. Please encourage your graduating students with children to consider participating. For additional information, they may contact Deb Unruh (student life).
