  • Suzanne Scheller (nursing) and her pediatric nursing students presented an educational poster to the Vietnamese community Sept. 7 during the Mid-Autumn Children’s Festival at Lien Hoa Buddhist Temple in southwest Houston. Also at the festival, community nursing students under the direction of Ann Malecha presented a poster of breast cancer, and Vi Ho and Ngozi Mbue, along with their J2 nursing students, provided hypertension screenings, BMI, nutrition counseling and flu shots.
  • Kudos to Wesley Tucker (nutrition & food sciences) on receiving Heart, Lung and Circulation’s Best Review Prize for 2019, an early career publication prize awarded to the first author of the best review article published in the Heart, Lung and Circulation journal in 2018. The award includes a $1,000 prize. Tucker received the award as first author of the review article “Mechanisms of the Improvement in Peak VO2 with Exercise Training in Heart Failure with Reduced or Preserved Ejection Fraction.”
  • TWU is monitoring Tropical Storm Imelda. Although there is a threat of heavy rain and flooding for the Houston area through Thursday, we expect no interruptions to university operations at this time. Updates will be posted on the TWU Houston homepage or through the Pioneer Alert system.
