  • Congratulations to Pinky Shani (nursing) for receiving a New Investigator Award at the Society of Integrative Oncology conference, held Oct. 19-21 in New York City. Shani conducted a podium presentation on her R34 grant, “Caring for Caregivers with Mind-Body Exercises,” at the conference.
  • TWU Community Nursing, under the teaching of Susan Mellott and Ann Malecha, presented educational posters on diabetes and hypertension to the Vietnamese community Oct. 13 at the Annual Health Fair. Three groups of students conducted a Women Health Service Learning project under the direction of Joan Edwards, presenting educational posters on breast and cervical cancers and osteoporosis. They also distributed educational pamphlets on hepatitis B, cardiovascular disease, self-esteem issues, breast cancer and other diseases prevalent in the Vietnamese population.
  • Mindy Patterson (nutrition and food sciences) had an article, “Resistant Starch Content in Foods Consumed in the United States: A Narrative Review,” accepted for publication in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the primary journal for registered dietitians. Madhura Maiya (research and sponsored programs) was a co-author on the publication.
