Denton Details, 5-9-18

  • The TWU Community offers its condolences to the family and friends of Delores Gardner, retired associate professor of early childhood education, who passed away April 5, 2018. A funeral service was held April 9.
  • Shuttle service to both the North Remote Parking Lot (Frame St. and University Dr.) and the Denton Bible Church remote parking lot (2300 E. University Dr.) will be temporarily suspended during the summer semester, from Monday, May 14 through Friday, Aug. 24. If you need assistance or have questions regarding either location during this period, contact Facilities Management & Construction at x3131. Service to and from both remote parking lots will resume Monday, Aug. 27, the first day of classes for the fall semester.
  • Reminder: A retirement reception for Linda Marshall (social work) and David Marshall (math and computer science) will take place from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, May 10 on ACT2.
  • The next session of Professor’s Corner, a literary discussion group, will feature Guy Litton (honors programs) presenting “The Hunger Games: The Young Adult Heroine in the Era of Dystopian Fiction." The session will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, May 14 at the Denton South Branch Library, 3228 Teasley Ln. For more information, contact Stephen Souris (English, speech and foreign languages).
  • Renee Patchin will serve as interim director of the Career Connections Center effective May 18.
  • Some in Student Life will take on new roles effective July 1. Beth Lewis will become director of ID Systems and Special Events. Jill Eckardt will serve as senior food service and housing officer. David Sweeten will oversee the TWU Bookstore.
  • Will Senn (library science) was elected to a three-year term on the executive council of the Southwest Decision Sciences Institute.
